Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) San Antonio, Texas Southwest Research Institute, founded in 1947, is an independent, nonprofit, applied research and development organization dedicated to pursuing innovation while benefiting humanity. We pursue over 4,000 projects a year including our own internal research and development. Our SA, Texas campus has 1500 acres of state-of-the-art facilities and lab space to create and design in. The SwRI family consists of more than 2600 staff members, within 9 different technical divisions. We pursue projects in deep sea to deep space, and everything in between! Join us on a journey of discovery. Our multidisciplinary teams tackle the toughest challenges, from self-driving vehicles to drug discovery to cybersecurity and beyond. A traditional strength of the Space Science Department is the design and fabrication of instruments for the in-situ measurement of space plasmas, the dilute ionized gases that populate the immediate space environments of the Earth and other solar system bodies as well as interplanetary space
