Mechanical engineering intern

June - August 2019 • Port Arthur, TX

What I liked

I liked being able to work on real projects that would have been done by the engineer if you were not there. It’s real experience that you get to interact and ask questions and learn about. Another thing I enjoyed was meeting so many different people who all do different things to achieve the same goal at work. It was a really good way to make connections and learn a ton in the oil and gas industry!

Advice

It is so beneficial to get this experience. I learned so much during my internship that I would never learn during my classes. My only recommendation is to ask a lot of questions!!! Sometimes it can be intimidating going into a refinery that you know absolutely nothing about, which scares people away from asking questions because they don’t want to sound dumb. My advice is if you don’t know something, ASK! people are there to help you and ultimately that’s their job and they don’t mind explaining things to you. Overall it was a great experience
