Theatre and Dance Student Associate: Studio & Production Technician
The Studio Technician Team supports the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance by maintaining studio performance spaces in the F. Loren Winship Drama Building and the Laboratory Theatre Buildings. They are responsible for coordinating with graduate and undergraduate students using Theatre and Dance studio spaces for their productions as well as assisting as needed in other performance spaces in the F. Loren Winship Drama Building. This position will have a minimum of 5 hours of work each week but can work more hours per week depending on production needs.
The Studio & Production Technician is responsible for maintaining the inventory of all lighting and sound equipment, props, and furniture in the studio performance spaces of the Department of Theatre and Dance and will regularly check the assigned spaces and, when necessary, return items to their appropriate rooms, repair minor damage to the equipment or items, and/or coordinate with the Audience Services Coordinator and Assistant Operations Manager to have them repaired or replaced.
The Studio Production Technician will collaborate and work with faculty, staff, and students in the Department of Theatre and Dance, Texas Performing Arts, and the College of Fine Arts as well as other departments and units at the University of Texas at Austin and the great university community to support their role. They will regularly and as needed meet with studio project production teams to assist with their needs for their production and communicate those needs accordingly as well as assist the teams in the execution of their projects. They will assist the Audience Services Coordinator and the Assistant Operations Manager with the management of studio projects.
The Studio Production Technician will meet regularly with the Audience Services Coordinator and the other Studio Production Technicians to communicate needs and successfully plan and execute job duties. They will also provide instruction on how to use department studio and production spaces as needed.
The position may be able to or be required to attend training for equipment and safety related to the position.
Ideal candidates will have an understanding of theatrical technology and terminology. Experience working with theatrical lighting and sound equipment is a plus.
