Communications Intern
TITLE: Communications Intern
FLSA (exempt or non-exempt status): Non-Exempt (16- to 20-hours per week)
II. POSITION SUMMARY: This position assists the Communications Department with the production of high-quality, brand-appropriate print and digital media to further the mission of the Association.
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist with the writing, editing and layout for TRWA’s Quench magazine.
· Help edit TRWA’s website and produce social media posts and email newsletters.
· Support the production of promotional materials for Association events, programs and initiatives, such as conferences, trainings and annual programs, including printed materials, digital assets and videos.
IV. OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES:
· Assist with advertising sales and preparations for Quench magazine.
· Provide support ahead of conferences and events.
· Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director.
V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Ability to use a computer.
· Occasionally lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds.
VI. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Experience or relevant coursework in print or digital media production, graphic design or web design preferred.
VII. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Excellent writing and communications skills, and an eye for detail looking over work at all stages of the production process.
· Proficiency with personal computers and standard office applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
· Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn.
· Familiarity with desktop publishing and design applications, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or Premiere; Canva; etc.
· Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
· Basic knowledge of content management systems, HTML and web publishing tools.
· General understanding of digital photography and video production.
· Willingness to learn new programs and techniques in areas where experience may be lacking.
VIII. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
· Reports to: Communications Director
· Supervises (if any): none
· Supports: TRWA staff in their communications work
· Peer collaboration/communicates with (internal, external): Frequent with all internal departments, occasionally with utility and associate members, sponsors, advertisers, state agencies and media contacts, and the general public.
