Media Productions Internship (Summer 2024)

*Position open to all APU students.

Location: Azusa Main Campus (East and West)

Purpose or role of the position within the organization: The student works directly with the Production Engineer to support university events by ensuring all technical systems are configured properly and fully operational prior to and during events. Student will also aid in all areas of production to ensure the success of the department.

Duties and Expectations

  • Responsible for the setup and maintenance of technical systems under the direction of the Production Engineer.
  • Responsible for the technical infrastructure for major live events under the direction of the Production Engineer.
  • Responsible for proper technical support for appropriate systems including but not limited to broadcast, lighting, audio, power and infrastructure.
  • Responsible for training and mentoring of students in related production equipment and techniques.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting various technical systems while working on multiple tasks and under extreme pressure.
  • Assist other staff members in areas of Video, Audio,Lighting,Editing, and Graphics to fulfill tasks as needed.
  • Available for up to 29 hours to assist with events, installations, and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

General and specific qualifications for the position:

  • Must be able to follow the direction of the Production Engineer.
  • Must be able to execute complex sequences of operation with time precision and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of television programming concepts, principles, methodologies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital audio engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of information technology systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of pertaining to live event production and video post production.
  • Knowledge of audio visual and broadcast equipment.
  • Knowledge of signal routing.
  • Proficient in both Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Must be team oriented.
  • Must have excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and written skills.
  • Requires the ability to work under extreme pressure and on multiple tasks.
  • 3-5 years production experience preferred.

Physical, Mental, & Visual Demands:

  • Requires good technical and problem solving skills. Must have a service-oriented mindset with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks as they are assigned.
  • The ability to be organized and detailed, quickly evaluate the nature of problems, and to seek a solution rapidly and accurately as well as fully communicating all issues is essential.
  • Occasionally working as needed nights, evenings, and weekends.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. Repetitive hand motions at computer keyboard, console, or camera.
  • Sitting and/or standing 3-4 hours per day.
  • Ability to conduct work on either university campus.
  • Able to reach, grasp, pull, bend, lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Long hours working in a physical environment.

Hourly Rate:
