Surface Modeling Engineer - SURFA007895-00001

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking full-time Surface Modeling Engineer for the Analytical Solutions Division (ASD) located onsite in Huntsville, AL. Come join our dynamic design engineering team to work on projects and provide innovative computer aided design and create surface modeling systems that solve problems for our customers.  The Surface Modeling Engineer will design, develop, evaluate, and modify systems and systems-oriented products. Analyze customer(s) problems; assists in designing systems to satisfy customer needs.  Perform original design work after receiving the design goal or problem, general method of processing and engineering advice on related theoretical aspects to be considered in the design. Complexity of assignments requires the exercise of considerable initiative, latitude, independent judgment, and the ability to design independently with only general technical direction.

 

What you’ll do as Surface Modeling Engineer (may not be all inclusive)

     * Design and create models using advanced surface modeling features, such as, boundary surfaces, datum and projected curves, variable section sweeps and fillets, and splines

     * Generate complex and high-quality digital surface models according to designer specifications from sketches, renderings, concept designs and scan data

     * Uses standard and specialized computer aided design (CAD) digitizing techniques and skills

     * Lead design meetings with technical staff

     * Prepares cost estimates for entire project of piece of the equipment

     * Provide technical briefings and updates to staff and leadership

     * Provide oversight and input to manufacturing teams, ensuring the accuracy and quality of all systems.

     * Develops design drawings according to engineering sketches and proposal specifications

     * Assist project teams in preparing presentations and demonstrations

     * Provide proposal development support

     * Digitizes, edits, and revises engineering drawings of components, parts, circuits, structures and/or assemblies

     * Develops and maintains manuals, drawings, system specifications, electronic and hardcopy files of customer installations, calibration records, maintenance records, and quality control information

     * Apply analytical, evaluative, and constructive expertise to meet the critical deadlines assigned

     * Responsible to identify and evaluate new manufacturing technologies and integrate innovative materials and process improvements

 

Must Haves as a Surface Modeling Engineer:

     * Requires Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2+ years within Mechanical Engineering

     * Strong knowledge of SolidWorks

     * Proficient with AutoCAD

     * Excellent written and verbal communication skills

     * Ability to manage and prioritize numerous assignments

     * Apply analytical, evaluative, and constructive expertise to meet the critical deadlines assigned

     * Job requires constant pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, grasping, bending, and stooping and candidate must be able to lift up to 50lbs

     * Be physically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection and hand protection as required

     * US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain SECRET clearance

 

Wish List/Preferred:

     * Active / current SECRET Clearance from the US Department of Defense

     * 2+ years’ experience in Design or Prototype

     * Knowledge and application of industrial cutting, sewing, and joining operations

     * Working knowledge of Solidworks Surfacing

     * Proficiency Rhino surface modeling or willingness to use SolidWorks/Rhino exclusively
