Mental Health Therapist Intern

General Description:

The Mental Health Therapist Intern provides individual and family therapy, group therapy to children and their families, and may also provide case management and consultation with PCPs, schools, OODHS Child Welfare, Developmental Disability Services and Self Sufficiency programs, and other community partners.  Eligible clients may be self-referred or referred by schools, County Mental Health, ODHS Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency, or the client’s PCP. Authorization for services may be required from the CCO or other payer source. Some early evenings and/or Saturdays may be required.

 

Qualifications:

Second or third year student working toward master's degree in Social Work, Family Therapy, and/or Counseling. You will need to successfully complete a ODHS background check, which may include fingerprinting. You must have a reliable vehicle and minimum auto insurance. You must be computer proficient in a Microsoft Windows environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic medical records systems is preferred.  Options Counseling and Family Services requires that all staff have respectful, open, and accepting attitudes toward clients and their families.
 

Essential Job Functions

  • Interview client to obtain information concerning family history or other assessment information.
  • Conduct mental health assessments for children and adults, including DSM-V diagnosis.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, defining specific goals and objectives, and revise as needed.
  • Provide short-term therapy and case management services in the office, schools, communities, in the client’s home, and/or virtually.
  • Maintain accurate and current client records, including timely Individualized Service and Support Plans (treatment plans), authorization requests, and daily progress notes within the electronic client record (ECR), and sign documents to meet federal and state regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate access and provision of services from multiple agencies, including establishing service linkages, advocating for service needs, and obtaining entitlements based on mental or emotional disability.
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses and their primary care physicians to coordinate treatment.
  • Coordinate case activities with Program Supervisor, ODHS/Child Welfare, Juvenile Department, schools, and others as appropriate.
  • Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate and suggested by parent, guardian and/or ODHS/ Child Welfare caseworker.
  • Make requests for authorization for services to the local CCO as required.
  • Attend and participate in weekly individual and group clinical supervision and team meetings, as directed.
  • Coordinate with ODHS and the local CCO regarding referrals as directed.
  • Remain current on relevant research and evidence-based practices.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Maintain client confidentiality according to state and federal guidelines
