Education Intern

The Dallas Symphony Association is seeking a motivated Music Education, Music Performance, or Music Business student to serve as an Education Intern for the Summer of 2024. This intern will have the opportunity to support the education department through administrative and operational tasks associated with Young Musicians and Young Strings summer camps.

 

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

Young Musicians summer camp preparation:

  • Assembling folders of music and paperwork for students and teachers
  • Creating, printing, and assembling name tag lanyards
  • Preparing/organizing instruments to be used by students
  • Other preparation tasks as needed

Young Musicians and Young Strings summer camps:

  • Assist with safe arrival and dismissal procedures with name tags;
  • Organize and work welcome desk
  • Move instruments and supplies to different rooms based on teachers’ needs;
  • Communicate with parents, students, and staff.
  • For music education or performance majors: If we have a need, and the welcome desk is covered, you may have the chance to observe or assist teachers in group and orchestral instruction on all orchestral instruments.

Digital Newsletter Creation:

  • Using our template on Canva, create an internal newsletter for the Education department sharing photos and information from Young Musicians and Young Strings summer camps;
  • Add video clips to DSO Education YouTube channel and link in newsletter; and
  • Use creativity and freedom to design various pages in the newsletter.

 

The internship will run from June 11 through August 2 (8 weeks). Schedule is as follows:

June 11 – July 3 (10-20 hrs/week, in person at Meyerson or summer camp site): Administrative work and camp preparation

July 4-5: holiday

July 9 – July 27 (20 hrs/week, in-person): Young Musicians summer camp, newsletter creation

July 29 – Aug 2 (20 hrs/week, in-person: Young Strings summer camp, complete newsletter

 

The qualified applicant will be majoring/concentrating in Music Education, Music Performance, or Music Business or have an interest in working with kids. Additionally, we are seeking an applicant who:

  • Is organized, on time, and communicative; and
  • Wants to get an inside scoop of all of the behind-the-scenes and day-to-day operations of a summer camp run by a nonprofit organization. 

Please note that there will be some physical labor in moving instruments and supplies around campus.
