TREAT System Engineering Internship Summer 2024 - (21039)

Reporting to the TREAT Engineering Manager, you will work with TREAT system engineers to support facility modifications, which will include general system modifications and facility modifications to support the installation and operation of Microreactor Applications Research Validation and Evaluation (MARVEL) and reactor engineers to collect and evaluate TREAT operational data to improve TREAT reactor operations. You will also gain understanding of TREAT safety basis documentation and familiarize themselves with performing engineering work in a nuclear reactor environment. You will support formal report preparation.

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

During their internship, interns can attend colloquia that feature world-renowned researchers discussing a broad range of energy topics, from nuclear non-proliferation to hybrid energy systems. They tour INL, which covers 900-plus square miles, to learn about research programs, past accomplishments and INL plans. The INL site tour series includes visits to Experimental Breeder Reactor-1, where nuclear fission generated the world's first usable amount of electricity, the Advanced Test Reactor, a 3D research tool known as a computer-assisted virtual environment - or CAVE - and many other facilities. Additionally, interns participate in workshops to help develop important career related skills like resumé writing, interviewing, and networking.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Undergraduate and Graduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering or closely related field.
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)
  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)
  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)
  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
