  • May 1 - May 10: 15 - 20 hours per week
  • May 11 - August 2: 30 - 40 hours per week
  • August 3 - 9: 10 - 20 hours per week
  • End Date: August 9, 2024 (flexible)

Reports to: Education Supervisor
Salary:  $15.00/hour
 

Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized non-profit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlanta’s tree loss, protect its forests, and create new greenspace. Empowered by its wonderful community of volunteers, Trees Atlanta serves the metro Atlanta area, and has grown to become one of Atlanta’s most widely known and supported non-profit organizations. 
 

Trees Atlanta is looking for an enthusiastic, committed individual who is excited to join a hard-working, mission-driven team as the mentor for our Junior Intern Program at our Summer Camp.  This individual will play a key role in organizing and mentoring our rising 7th - 12th graders as they develop skills to assist our Summer Camp Counselors in camp programs in May, June, and July.   

You’ll create impact by:

  • Mentoring the Junior Interns, a group of 10 middle and high school students, each week of camp
  • Conducting weekly Junior Intern feedback sessions
  • Conduct short, daily Learning Sessions for the Junior Interns covering topics such as: Working with Kids, Problem Solving, Mentoring Youth, Safety, and Team-work
  • Set up and organize materials according to lesson plans
  • Partner with Camp Interns as they mentor youth (ages 12-18) Junior Interns while they are with their groups
  • Manage Junior Intern Safety
  • Assist with Junior Intern selection and communication before, during, and at the end of their sessions.
  • Manage weekly pizza deliveries for summer camp and organize Junior Interns in assisting with weekly party
  • Facilitate the Junior Intern supplies including t-shirts, thank you gifts, snacks, etc.
  • Ensure all supplies are ordered for the duration of the Summer Camp
  • Serve as a backup in the absence of a Camp Counselor


What You need: 

  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to engage children in 1-6 grade levels with environmental education. Professional experience is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Prior camp counselor experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively on a team
  • Knowledge of forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, botany, or related field preferred.
  • Dependable and highly skilled with time and task management
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Must be capable of being active outdoors in various weather conditions with exposure to summer sun, heat, inclement weather, and natural wildlife habitats, including animals and/or insects for extended periods of time.
  • Must be a confident and safe bike rider able to ride several miles each day of camp.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. repetitively.

  • Candidates will then be selected to move forward with an in-person interview.  This interview will take place in-person with two education team members.
  • Final candidates will be asked to submit at least 3 references before a conditional offer will be extended.
