Health Professions Peer Mentor (open to work study and non-work study)

HEALTH PROFESSIONS PEER MENTOR (Student Associate)

(8-12 hours per week part-time position)

 

Advising/Coaching

  • Meets with students virtually and in person via Handshake appointments to introduce Health Professions Office services; provides mentoring in health professions career path, guidance in experiential learning such as volunteering, shadowing, and community service; develops and presents peer workshops and presentations; serves as a role model of professional behavior
  • Refers students to campus resources/offices as appropriate
  • Assists pre-health professions students in setting appointments with Pre-Health Professions Coaches
  • Maintains confidentiality about any and all student academic and personal information in accordance with university and federal policies and regulations

Presentations/Representation of Office

  • Staffs tables and presents information at departmental and campus events

Social Media/Marketing/Outreach

  • Assist with HPO social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and the use of Hoot Suite
  • Assisting in the development and execution of social media campaigns
  • Contributes in the coordination of implementing HPO Social Media strategies, generating traffic to social media platforms and website, and increase user engagement
  • Aid in the formation of the HPO Weekly Newsletter

Administrative Duties

  • Assists with administrative duties including development and maintenance of Pre-Health Professions Coaching informational and marketing materials
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area

Qualifications

Minimum 3.6 Overall GPA. (A 3.6 overall GPA must be maintained to stay in this position.)

Incoming 3rd year (JUNIOR) or 4th+ year (SENIOR+) undergraduate UT Pre-Health Professions student and will have completed Orgo I & Orgo II by start date.

Graduation date no earlier than May 2025.

About the Health Professions Office: The Health Professions Office provides UT students with the information necessary to make informed academic and career decisions. Full-time Pre-Health Professions Coaches and part-time peer coaches are available to help students determine school admission requirements, coach them on health career options and alternatives, and provide them with up-to-date information about professional schools in Texas, across the country, and around the world. Pre-Health Professions Coaches offer students counseling and coaching as well as present workshops on topics regarding professional school application and interviewing procedures.
