The Curatorial Technician will report to the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory’s Head of Collections, assisting with the rehabilitation of existing collections (paper, photographic and objects) to current standards. They will update collections inventory database systems, and aid with accessioning new incoming collections. The Curatorial Technician may also take direction from the Laboratory Manager and may work with volunteers, students and interns on various teams or projects. They may perform other job duties as assigned. This position is set at 19 hours per week, located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus.    

 

Required qualifications:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related Humanities/Social Sciences field, Information Sciences, or Geography.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to organize physical collections, prioritize collection activities, and plan for supplies and equipment needs. 
  • Willingness to learn artifact identification for prehistoric and historic assemblages.
  • Ability to do detailed and precise tasks, follow stated procedures exactly, and learn new software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Working towards an advanced degree in Anthropology, Information/Library Sciences, or related fields.
  • Archeological field experience to include at least one season of excavation/analysis.
  • Six months, or more, of work in a field processing lab or preparing collections for curation.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability for professional growth as evidenced by increasing levels of work responsibility.

Working conditions: May work in extreme temperatures. May work around chemical fumes. May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Climbing of ladders. Lifting and moving. 

 

Flexible work hours Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. 19 hours/week. The position is for one year with the potential for renewal. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications of the candidate.

 

This position is located at the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory at the Pickle Research Campus. Access to a car or other means of transportation is necessary.
