Job Description: The purpose of this position is to assist and mentor high school students through the SHE in Oncology Program, July 15 – July 26, 2024.  In this 100% virtual position, Student Facilitators act as chaperones to ensure student safety online while also sharing their college experience and encouraging high school students to pursue careers and course work in STEM fields.  The SHE in Oncology Program is a national program funded by the American Cancer Society that includes 100 students from across the US participating synchronously on Zoom, for 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 2 weeks.

20 local Central Texas high school students hosted by UT Austin’s Dell Medical School; Livestrong Cancer Institutes will participate.  Students from Title 1 Schools, that are considered to have low socioeconomic status, are from a medically underserved area or would be a first-generation college student in their family are given priority admission.

The other participating institutions hosting 20 students each are the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Pennsylvania.

This is an incredible opportunity for a UT Austin student to not only mentor younger learners from wherever they may reside in the summer but hear from and take part in conversations with incredible clinicians and research scientists advancing cancer treatment and health care from all five participating world class institutions.
