CNS IT Network Security Student Worker - open to both Workstudy and non-Workstudy students

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

You will help increase the security posture and the state of the network for the College of Natural Sciences. This role has multiple fast-paced positions available; depending on your skill set, you will help with projects such as:

  1. Securing printers and re-mapping them to faculty and staff computers
  2. Manipulating data in spreadsheets and identifying patterns
  3. Working in networking closets to patch and unpatch cables
  4. Receive training and interact with our internal network tools

 

This role involves access to sensitive information and requires a high level of integrity and discretion. You will be expected to handle responsibilities with the utmost trust and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position in accordance state and federal law.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: (list at least 2 job responsibilities) 

  • Collaborate on projects aimed at enhancing network security within the college environment.
  • Execute the re-mapping of printers across various college departments to increase security.
  • Utilize spreadsheet applications to manipulate and analyze data for reporting and decision-making purposes.

  • Gain hands-on experience in working on projects aimed at improving network security.
  • Develop expertise in using spreadsheet applications for data manipulation, expanding proficiency in IT support tasks.

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Part-time
  • in-person
  • Semesterly appointment with the potential to be extended
  • Pay Rate: 15

 

WORK SHIFT:

  • Hours/Week: 15 hours minimum
  • Time frame availability: M-F 8-5

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in using spreadsheet software for data manipulation.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Attention to detail is an absolute must
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience or coursework related to network security, computer science, data science, or management information systems
  • Familiarity with printer mapping and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced skills in spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Previous experience in a similar IT support role.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • May require going into science labs where PPE will be required
  • May require working in tight spaces such as networking closets (this isn’t a requirement unless agreed upon in the interview process)
