External Reporting and Corporate Accounting Intern

As an External Reporting and Corporate Accounting Intern, you’ll gain insight into the External Reporting and Corporate Accounting team, who is responsible for the monthly accounting close and consolidation across the entire organization, as well preparing and filing our quarterly financial statements with the SEC. We work closely with our Investor Relations team on our quarterly earnings releases and develop strong working relationships with our controllership, enterprise FP&A, finance systems, legal, tax and external audit teams. In addition, you’ll participate in a summer series that includes our executive speaker events, Excel and PowerPoint workshops, and personal and professional development sessions.

 

This internship runs from June to August 2024. It’s a remote role. This internship has the potential to lead to a full-time opportunity. Housing will not be provided.

What you’ll do

  • ​​​​​​Assist in the preparation, external audit and tie-out of various Best Buy financial filings, including core SEC filings, benefit plans, and statutory financial statements
  • Benchmark and research peer SEC filings and accounting guidance to provide observations and recommendations
  • Assist in various internal control workstreams, including quarterly SOX compliance, ESG controls and developing training materials
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations within our corporate accounting function
  • Determine and implement process improvements and/or automation

 

Basic qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree from an accredited college/university, with an expected graduation date between fall 2024 and spring 2025 
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  
  • Must be able to commit to the internship start and end date of 6/3/2024- 8/9/2024 
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

 

Preferred qualifications

  • GAAP and internal control knowledge
  • Ability to work in a fast pace/ever changing environment and drive results
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Major in Accounting
