Principal Applications Engineer (Austin R1017-23)

Microchip is seeking a Silicon Carbide (SiC) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our SiC Power Solutions Group, supporting targeted regions in the Americas.  
SMEs support our high voltage SiC products which include SiC die, discrete, module and gate driver solutions. SMEs work with our Business Development Mangers, field applications, sales engineers and factory BUs to help drive revenue by providing power solutions to our customers. They develop demonstrations, generate product support materials (application notes, presentations, etc.), and visit field offices / customer sites to support Microchip’s Silicon Carbide power products. They also interact with the global product development teams to help ensure that end customer requirements are considered when defining and developing new products. 
Job Responsibilities: 

  • Support the field sales and applications teams to drive design wins and provide technical support to our customers 
  • Generate training materials 
  • Create demonstrations, evaluation boards, and application notes 
  • Travel to regional offices to provide in-depth technical training 
  • Provide feedback to the new product development teams about customer needs/requirements 
  • Visit product development sites to get training on new products 
  • Collaborate with other business units, marketing, applications, and field teams to create Total System Solutions for our customers 
  • Customer visits with the Business Development Mangers and field teams  
  • Work with marketing to track the major regional business opportunities 
  • Assist with new product development and application testing 

Requirements/Qualifications:
Mandatory Requirements 

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 
  • At least 10+ years of experience as an Applications, Field Applications Engineer, or Design Engineer 
  • Experience developing and analyzing analog and digitally controlled switching power circuits 
  • Hardware expertise with high-voltage and high-power conversion 
  • Experience and expertise in thermal design and analysis 
  • Experience with PCB design tools 
  • Experience using circuit and system level simulation tools 
  • Excellent knowledge of laboratory equipment and analysis of the test results 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with global teams 
  • Available for traveling  
 
Desirable Requirements 

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering 
  • Experience with wide bandgap technology specifically Silicon Carbide (SiC) 
  • Experience with automotive applications 
  • Experience with customer support 
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing and mitigation techniques 
  • Hands-on experience with embedded systems 
  • Familiarity with C/C++ or other software/firmware development experience 
  • Experience with Altium Designer 
  • Experience with PLECS, Matlab, Spice or other circuit simulation tools
