Junior Camp Counselor - Southwest Family YMCA Center

During the summer, we run an 8-week mini-summer camp at our Southwest Family YMCA Center, and our goal is to provide an unforgettable summer for our campers. Mini camp begins in June and will end the first week of August. Our Junior Camp Counselors will have the option to work with two different age groups - group one consists of campers ages 3 to 5 or group two consists of campers ages 6 to 11. There will be no camp on the week of July 4th. Our Junior Camp Counselors are role models! Junior Camp Counselors ensure a safe, fun, and positive camp experience for everyone. As a Junior Camp Counselor, you assist in creating and leading fun engaging activities like creative movement exercises, arts and crafts, literacy, swimming, and more. Most importantly, you'll ensure our campers have the best summer yet! Location:  Southwest Family YMCA - 6219 Oakclaire Dr. Austin, Texas 78735 

Pay Rate: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour. Final compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Create the mini-camp schedule and activities. 
  • Supervise campers at all times.  
  • Build a positive relationship with each camper.
  • Actively engage with campers to foster the positive development of each child and the group
  • Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
  • Communicate with the parents of students as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, guardians, and staff. 
  • Maintain necessary records to track attendance in classes.
  • Render first aid as needed and complete the required incident and accident paperwork.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.  
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.  
  • Complete other duties as assigned.   

What We're Looking For:

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of 16 years old 
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience in leading a group of campers is a plus!

Availability: 
  • Monday through Thursday,  8:30 am-1:30 pm.
