Summer Swim Instructor

Swim lessons are crucial for every child at any age. Not only do swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning and improve water safety skills, but swimming is also a fun way to stay active and encourage healthy living from an early age. If you enjoy teaching and swimming, have a flexible schedule, and can work 15 - 28 hours per week, this is the perfect job for you! 

The YMCA of Austin will ensure you get all the certifications required and have all the resources you need to be successful in this role. 

Pay Rate: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour.  Final compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Teach swim lessons for ages 6 months and up. 
  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of all persons in the pool area.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the area; remove items and equipment when finished or those that need attention to all needed repairs to your supervisor.
  • Follow pool lockup procedures if your class is not followed by another activity. If your class is followed by another group, remain on duty until you are relieved.
  • Render first aid as needed and complete an incident/accident report form for every injury/altercation on the premises.
  • Communicate and engage with participants, parents, or guardians regarding the progress of class participants.
  • Teach classes as assigned by the program director.
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests. 
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned.  

What We're Looking For: 

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 16 years old
  • A swimming background is preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR/AED, and Emergency Oxygen certifications

Availability: Flexible Availability during Swim Program Hours and able to work between 15 to 28 hours per week.
