P.R.I.D.E. PREVENTION SPECIALIST
 
Applications are being accepted for a P.R.I.D.E. Prevention Specialist with Randall County Juvenile Services/Youth Center of the High Plains. This position requires evenings and weekends. Submission to a drug test, physical, psychological exam, and background check is required. Randall County is an E.O.E.
 
Definition:
This position primarily assists in prevention efforts designed to reduce youth contact with the juvenile justice system. This position provides prevention, education, skills building, case management, and intervention services to youth, groups, individuals, families, and community partners. Prevention and education efforts may pertain to risk factors including substance use, social media safety, violence prevention, etc. This position will also assist in relationship building and community outreach efforts with local stakeholders.
 
Salary:   Beginning salary is $41,941.80-$46,240.83; plus, full county benefits which include optional health, dental, and vision plans, bereavement leave, longevity pay, holiday leave, vacation leave, sick leave, potential 2% cost of living raise annually and up to a 1% performance increase annually, etc.

Education:
·        Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
·        One-year casework experience preferred  
·        Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate, or Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (or higher)

Essential duties and responsibilities:
·        Provide individual and family skills building within community homes, probation department, and detention
·        Assist in building relationships with community stakeholders (school systems, children’s shelters, TPC, etc.) in order to help facilitate the dissemination of preventative/educational services offered by Randall County Juvenile Probation
·        Provide drug prevention, education, and intervention services to individuals, groups, and families
·        Create and facilitate public presentations related to risk factors associated with youth entrance into the juvenile justice system
·        Assist in transporting youth to county sanctioned programming and in the community
·        Assess individual and family problems, needs, and strengths and provide appropriate program recommendations
·        Develop appropriate program plans
·        Provide accurate and timely documentation of all services rendered as well as manage client files automated and manual systems
·        Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available social agencies and other community resources and coordinate appropriate referrals
·        Assist with case management services to clients and their families
·        Provide program summaries for assigned clients
·        Assist in Ropes Course and other experiential activities

Knowledge of:
·        Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
·        Motivational Interviewing, preferred
·        Social agencies and other resource options
·        Substance use disorders and prevention and intervention strategies
·        Case management and counseling methods and techniques
·        Knowledge of and interest in experiential counseling initiatives
·        One-year casework experience, preferred
 
Licenses or Certificates:
·        Current Texas driver’s license (and insurable)
·        CPR/First Aid and approved restraint training (may be obtained after hire)
·        Licensed as a LCDC, LPC-A, or LBSW (or higher)
