Junior Basketball Camp Counselor - Southwest YMCA Center

During the Summer, we run a 4-week mini-summer basketball camp at our Southwest Family YMCA Center for age groups of 5 to 12 years old. The mini-camp runs for two weeks in June and July. Our goal is to provide an unforgettable summer for our campers. Our Junior Camp Counselors are role models! Junior Camp Counselors ensure a safe, fun, and positive camp experience for everyone. As a Junior Camp Counselor, you assist in creating and leading fun engaging basketball activities, routines, and schedules. Most importantly, you'll ensure our campers have the best summer yet! Location:  Southwest Family YMCA - 6219 Oakclaire Dr. Austin, Texas 78735 

Pay Rate: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour.  Final compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Run a 2-hour sports clinic teaching drills and basic techniques 
  • Create the mini-camp schedule and activities 
  • Supervise campers from ages 5 to 12.
  • Build a positive relationship with each camper
  • Actively engage with campers to foster the positive development of each child and the group
  • Proactively adhere to policies and procedures, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
  • Communicate with the parents of campers as needed.
  • Conduct warm-up as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Track attendance of campers 
  • Render first aid as needed and complete the required incident and accident paperwork.
  • Assist facility supervisor in setting up and taking down fields/courts.
  • Distribute information or equipment as requested by the facility supervisor.
  • Check the play area for hazards before the start of each game.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.  
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.  
  • Complete other duties as assigned.  

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience: 
  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Knowledge of basketball skills 
  • Experience playing basketball is a plus
  • Certification as an official is a plus
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Availability: 
  •  Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-2:30 pm.
