Researcher 1 - Neuroscience Department

About the Job

The Nakagawa lab is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual for a Researcher 1 position to join our group studying brain development, with a broad interest spanning from neural stem cells to circuit formation and behavior in health and disease. This individual will work closely with the principal investigator and perform experiments and supervise undergraduate students. Our laboratory is a very diverse group, and we welcome applicants who will further enhance our diversity.

Duties/Responsibilities
75% -Perform research projects on mouse cerebral cortex development. This work includes working on knock-out creation, colony maintenance, trouble shooting, imaging, data analysis/collection, sectioning, and performing dissections, immunohistochemistry, and in-situ hybridization.

25% -Supervise and train current students doing sectioning (vibrating microtome, sliding microtome, cryostats), performing in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry and perfusing mouse embryos and post-natal pups.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, genetics or a related field of biology and research or a combination of education and work experience to equal 4 years.
  • Coursework in neuroscience, genetics, chemistry and math.

Preferred:
  • Excellent organization and record-keeping skills
  • Research experience in relevant areas involving histology, embryology, molecular biology or imaging.
  • Experience in embryo dissections, animal perfusions, tissue sectioning with cryostat, sliding microtome or vibratome, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, mouse husbandry, genotyping by PCR, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, image analysis with Fiji, ImageJ, R.
