Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Forest-Based Biomass Supply Modelling
The Forest Resources and Environmental Services Hub (FRESH) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDF) to participate in a new research project on forest-based biomass supply modelling.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Paradis and collaborate with Dr. Hisham Zerriffi, Dr. Taraneh Sowlati, and Dr. Qingshi Tu to model the forest-based biomass supply solution space in British Columbia. The research project will lay the foundation for a long-term research partnership on sustainable bioenergy production, with linkages to larger-scope issues around sustainable development of the forest and bioproducts sectors.
The PDF will use a systems analysis approach to model forest growth, management activities, and cradle-to-grave fibre flows through forest products sector supply chains. This modelling will allow the PDF to describe potential future biomass feedstock solution space in terms of linkages to key drivers of sustainability. The successful candidate will work on Phase 1 of the project, modelling biomass supply for British Columbia, potentially zooming in to one or more specific areas to conduct more detailed regional case studies.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in forestry, natural resource management, or a related field, with experience in forest-based biomass supply modelling and a demonstrated interest in sustainable bioenergy production. The candidate should also have strong quantitative skills and experience in programming, data analysis, and modelling. A working knowledge of forest ecosystem management processes and other parts of the forest sector supply chain would be an asset.
The successful candidate will be hosted at FRESH, located in the Forest Sciences Centre building on the UBC Vancouver campus, and will work closely with the UBC project team. This is a unique opportunity to work on a project with real-world impact and to contribute to a long-term research partnership focused on sustainable development of the forest and bioproducts sectors.
