Work-Study: UT Farm Stand Garden Student Assistant (Open to work-study and non-work study)

Roles and Responsibilities:
The mission of UT Farm Stand is to promote a local and sustainable food system to the UT Austin community. With two sustainable food gardens, a biweekly market, and a zero waste program, UT Farm Stand is supported by these three pillars: Farm, Table, Waste. UT Farm Stand is founded in the concept of experiential education and the drive to provide students with diverse opportunities that can develop their professional skills.
 
UT Farm Stand offers concurrent opportunities in the following areas: garden management (sowing, watering, weeding, harvesting, composting, etc.), retail food management (purchasing, marketing, customer service, etc.), and zero waste education (creating and facilitating events, , presentations, data collection, etc.). By combining these three facets, UT Farm Stand provides a co-curricular program that fosters educational growth, professional development, and environmental stewardship in its participants.
 
UT Farm Stand Garden Assistants will have a primary focus in garden management, though there will be opportunities in the markets and with zero waste programing.
  • Regular hands-on work in Kinsolving and Jester gardens;
  •  Collaborate with team to educate others about sustainable food production;
  • Assist in coordinating volunteers and special garden events
 
 
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Texas at Austin. 
  • Must be available to work a full year in the position.
  • There is no prior experience required; only a willingness to work hard and a deep desire to learn and help others.
