University Construction Contract Management Intern (Purchasing and Payment Services)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
Purchasing and Payment Services, which is the central office where contract management occurs for all major construction projects occurs.  
 
The Position 
This position will teach you about reviewing and analyzing construction contracts for major construction projects at The University. The University has many different construction projects pending at all times. The intern would help with reviewing and working on change orders, payment applications, reviewing construction contracts. Attend meetings and creating meeting minutes as well as creating a list of tasks and timelines for the construction project. Reviewing construction contract documents and working with different University departments in order to ensure that construction contract clauses are followed.

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
• Demonstrated organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Desire to learn about reviewing contracts and analyzing contracts.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of construction is helpful but not required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build campus partnerships.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations to deliver inclusive, culturally competent services and initiatives.
