MoveoutATX Coordinating Intern (Office of Sustainability)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office

The Position 
-Help coordinate volunteer efforts for MoveoutATX in partnership with the City of Austin. **Note MoveoutATX happens at the end of July to the beginning of August. You will have to be in person for the event.
-Attend MoveoutATX meetings
-Help with marketing and flyer distribution for MoveoutATX
 -Plan and host tabling events for MoveoutATX promotion
-Engage and educate peers and staff to motivate behavior change, such as proper disposal of non-reusable furniture and clothing and how they can rehome gentle-use items.
-Set up and break-down MoveoutATX donation stations and Free Furniture market
-Work with various UT departments and the City of Austin contacts to reach as many apartments as possible and continually improve services
-Attend mandatory OS team meetings
-Monitor and respond to MoveoutATX inquiries promptly
-Recruit, manage, support, and encourage volunteers 
 
In the case of spare time:
-Help the Office of Sustainability convey a positive image to the public through orientation sessions, speaking engagements, and zero-waste events.

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively about sustainability and waste diversion efforts.
  • Demonstrated dedication and commitment to sustainability.
  • Desire to educate various groups on and off campus about the importance of decreasing environmental impact.
  • Willingness to sort through donated items to minimize contamination (will be given proper PPE).
  • Ability to attend MoveoutATX meetings and events in person, and be flexible in scheduling.
