Communications Intern (Office of Campus Safety)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
The University of Texas at Austin Office of Campus Safety provides Emergency Management, Environmental Health & Safety, and Fire Prevention Services, along with other public safety services to create a safe and secure environment for university students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This unit analyzes, prepares for, protects from, and responds to potential hazards and safety risks in order to promote the well-being and continuity of the university environment and operations. 
 
The Position 
•Social Media Ambassador: Participate in social media campaigns that target undergraduate students, parents and visitors to help market the safety resources, trainings and tools provided by the Office of Campus Safety.
•Communications Data Analysis: Assist in the compilation and interpretation of social media analytics and other digital content analytics such as Google Analytics to help provide recommendations for continuous improvement of digital content.
•New Student Orientation: Participate in tabling events, outreach events, and presentations to help new students understand the tools and resources at their disposal to ensure they are following safety protocols on and off campus.
•Graphic Design: Assist OCS Communications Specialist in crafting PowerPoint presentations, reports, graphics and other documents using the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other supplemental programs.
•Content Audit and Analysis: Assist in the review, analysis and planning for future content and assist in the necessary analysis to assist mapping out changes to existing content based on current processes, procedures and policies. Analyze existing and future policies to help determine necessary changes to existing help content, training materials, resources and other digital content to ensure resources for employees is consistent with policy guidance.
•Participate in various communications trainings and professional development opportunities.
•As needed, other duties as assigned.
