Event and Program Planning Intern (Disability Cultural Center)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
The Disability Cultural Center is a new unit within the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement that will serve as a hub for disability organizing, community-building, and expression. The DCC will encourage interpersonal connection and collaborative learning toward more equitable spaces for disabled people.
 
The Position 
  • Planning events and developing communication and programming for Accommodation Orientation/Welcome Week Events/Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month for students in the Fall 2023 semester.
  • The intern will work with staff, campus partners and student organizations to plan 5-7 events during the first three weeks of classes and 5-7 events during the month of October. Some events will be held in collaboration with other UT departments.
  • Help with other DCC projects, including material development and participating in outreach events.

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Understanding/experience with disability, experience with event planning or implementation.
  • Skills in social media or content creation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and in team settings.
