Program and Processes Intern (Legislative Student Organizations)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance. Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office
Legislative Student Organizations (LSO) is an area of the Office of the Dean of Students that advises and provides support to Student Government, Graduate Student Assembly, and Senate of College Councils. Together these three entities are referred to as the Legislative Student Organizations. Each organization has a specialized mission and purpose, they all serve as voices for students on campus. Each organization passes legislation and spearheads initiatives to enhance the student experience at The University of Texas at Austin. A team of staff assists and advises student representatives of the Legislative Student Organizations in their day-to-day operations.
 
The Position 
 • Assist in the development and updating of material for student leader training, onboarding and education
• Review, analyze and track governing document updates and changes
• Update LSO Student Manual and support documents
• Organize archived historical data and documents
• Meet with LSO student representatives as needed
• Use and maintain online project management tool for all projects
• Conduct review and analysis of Campus Wide Election related codes to identify gaps and conflicts, and create proposal recommending updates
• Create student election manual 
• Research and benchmark campus election processes and materials for best practices for engaging candidates and voters at other Institutions
• Attend LSO staff meetings, trainings and retreats as requested
• Meet with supervisor for ideation, updates and troubleshooting
• General administrative duties such as printing, scanning, filing etc.

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
• Ability to work independently, follow-up with questions, and take initiative on projects
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with conducting research and analyzing data
• Experience developing training materials
• Familiarity with Legislative Student Organizations and Campus Elections
