Communication and Educational Support Intern (Sorority and Fraternity Life)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) is an area within the Office of the Dean of Students that provides members of sororities and fraternities with support, advisement, leadership opportunities and developmental programming to enhance their educational and membership experience. The SFL team includes full time, graduate, and undergraduate staff members. Our staff serves as liaisons between the university and the six student-run governing councils - The Interfraternity Council (IFC), The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), The Texas Asian Pan-Hellenic Council (TAPC), The Multicultural Greek Council, (MGC) The Latino Pan-Hellenic Council (LPHC), The University Panhellenic Council (UPC), as well as sororities and fraternities that are part of our affiliate circle. 
 
The Position 
The intern will have a unique opportunity to engage in a number of projects and topics that will support the mission and advance the Sorority and Fraternity Life at UT Austin. Projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating modules and educational resources related to diversity, equity, and inclusion topics; this will coincide with making updates and edits to an existing Cultural Consciousness Module
  • Research other higher education institutions and gather best practices for educating sorority and fraternity members on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics
  • Compose and curate social media content for use within area social media platforms
  • Produce original content as a resource for Sorority and Fraternity Life
  • Attend Sorority and Fraternity Life staff meetings (when work schedule permits)

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Competency around diversity, equity, and inclusion topics
  • Graphic and/or multi-media design
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative settings
  • Attention to detail and project management skills
  • Preferred (but not required) student organization experience and/or student leadership or employment experience
