The Office
The Terry Scholars Campus Coordinator is responsible for working with campus partners, including Housing and Dining, to provide learning experiences for Terry Scholars outside the classroom. The program is currently housed in Student Activities, and works closely with the VPSA office.

The Position
This position will work closely with both the Terry Scholars Campus Coordinator and campus partners in University Housing and Dining to help select and design activities to further the mission of the Terry Learning Objectives for the Living Learning Community. The intern will bring a student perspective to the types of activities that best serve students, as well as how to best position these activities for maximum community engagement as part of the Terry curriculum.

For background, the Terry Scholars program is a full ride scholarship provided through the Terry Foundation and administered at the University of Texas at Austin for approximately 150 students. Beginning in 2018, all entering first year Terrys have been placed in a Living Learning Community, where they are encouraged to learn more about how to build community on campus, learn about resources, and explore career opportunities. While the program has clear learning objectives and a number of activities, we would like to grow the number of activities for these scholars and also build partnerships with other LLCs and UHD to implement some of these activities more broadly for all incoming students, and not just Terrys. In many ways, we can use the Terry Scholars LLC as a way to test out new ideas and gather feedback before growing programs to all students.

Learning Outcomes:
  • The student intern will have an opportunity to use their creativity and student perspective to design activities in line with the Terry LLC curriculum that are both informative and engaging for students.
  • The student intern will have an opportunity to practice interpersonal communication skills as they engage with current Terry Scholars to gather feedback and solicit ideas.
  • The student intern will have gain valuable critical thinking and practical implementation skills related to curriculum design practices.
  • Will be an opportunity to learn more about curriculum design through webinars or meetings with educational faculty.
