Community Engagement Intern (SHIFT)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance. Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
SHIFT is an initiative that aims to shift campus culture around substance use by enhancing overall well-being, in and out of the classroom. 
 
The Position 
  • Work closely with the SHIFT Community Engagement Coordinator on strengthening and developing partnerships with the Austin hospitality community, alcohol retail establishments, business owners, neighbors, and enforcement agencies.
  • Assist in the compilation of comprehensive community engagement plans for Fall 2023, such as safer events programming as it relates to occasions like orientation, tailgates, Halloween, etc.
  • Attend regularly scheduled SHIFT team meetings and other meetings as needed

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Related field of study: Public Health, Health Education, Health Sciences, Human Services, Public Relations, Social Work, Psychology.
  • Interest in substance misuse prevention, harm-reduction, health education, student-centric messaging, and community coalition building.
