The Office
Formed in 2013, the Hazing Prevention and Education Committee seeks to shift the campus culture concerning hazing by offering foundational education on hazing prevention and skills for positive behavior change. Our approach as a committee is fundamentally holistic and partnership-driven. We value the expertise of various stakeholders including students, staff and faculty and aim to engage community partners such as parents and alumni in our prevention efforts. In order to shift the campus culture concerning hazing, our committee organizes awareness-raising events, develops mass communication messages, and designs workshops and presentations that both demystify hazing behaviors and promote positive culture change. Given that the co-chair for this committee and direct supervisor for the intern is a staff member in the Sorority and Fraternity Life Office (SFL), this intern position will be housed within the SFL office, but their primary responsibility will be to support the committee.

The Position
The intern will have a unique opportunity to support the Hazing Prevention and Education Committee in a number of projects over the course of the summer. Projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning all events and promotions for National Hazing Prevention Week (September 2023).
  • Assist with the management of a semesterly newsletter on campus hazing prevention efforts.
  • Assist with hazing prevention resource development and additional communications support (one-pagers, infographics, etc.).
  • Ongoing support for committee projects and administrative support for the committee overall.
  • Additional projects as determined by the intern and supervisor.
  • Attend all committee, co-chair, and project based meetings for the committee.
