Outreach Initiatives Support Intern (Women in STEM)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance. Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

Women in STEM (WiSTEM) is closing the STEM gender gap by creating an inspired and diverse community of confident STEM leaders. Sitting within the UT Austin Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE), WiSTEM leads exemplary and nationally recognized pre-college and undergraduate student STEM programs with a longstanding history that inspire, connect and support students in STEM majors across campus and beyond. 
 
The Position 
Assist with WiSTEM Summer Camp logistics
  • Manage Inventory & Supply Needs
  • Manage Remind communication channels with participants and parents
  • Support Camp Director with check-in and check-out processes
  • Prepare each week’s camp supplies and materials
  • Support Virtual Camp needs as determined
  • Work in collaboration with Outreach Communications Intern
Coordinate Day-Of Camp Activities Set-Up
  • Ensure activity kits are ready for use
  • Set-up camp locations with activity supplies
  • Prepare end of camp giveaways, materials and information for campers
Assist with Career / Role Model Camp Luncheons
  • Point of contact for food ordering and delivery
  • Set-up of lunch locations
  • Manage check-in for role models/guests attending
Assist with Post-Camp Reporting & Assessment
  • Input survey data
  • Create reports based on survey data and assessments
  • Organize and catalog remaining supplies
  • Update inventory and supply needs
  • Offer insights and suggestions into creating better processes to implement for next year

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Proactive & positive self-starter who can work collaboratively and independently
  • Responsible, mature and well-organized
  • Comfortable with multitasking
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite programs
  • Excellent communicators with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Interest in STEM youth outreach & able to inspire young students to pursue science, technology, engineering, or math

Required Qualifications: 
  • Undergraduate student
  • Currently enrolled (Fall/Spring) at UT Austin
  • Good academic & disciplinary standing
  • In-Person work arrangement
