Infection Prevention and Safety Intern (University Health Services)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance. Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
The University Health Services (UHS) provides medical care and patient education to students at The University of Texas at Austin. The mission of UHS is to provide healthcare and public health leadership to support students in reaching their optimal health so they can achieve their academic and personal potential.
 
The Position 
  • UHS will undergo an accreditation survey in Spring 2023, and we will have several projects to work on based on survey findings. Some examples of past projects include:
  • Creating a quality improvement activity tracker for employee engagement
  • Completing a hazards risk assessment of the organization
  • Conducting environment of care rounds to inspect clinic safety
  • Implementing a standardized eyewash station weekly and annual inspection.
  • Implementing a monthly fire extinguisher inspection and train employees on how to conduct inspection.

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
  • Interest in healthcare administration and policy.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
