Post Doctorate RA - Solid-State NMR

Overview

The Physical and Computational Sciences Directorate (PCSD) researchers lead major R&D efforts in experimental and theoretical interfacial chemistry, chemical analysis, high energy physics, interfacial catalysis, multifunctional materials, and integrated high-performance and data-intensive computing.

PCSD is PNNL’s primary steward for research supported by the Department of Energy’s Offices of Basic Energy Sciences, Advanced Scientific Computing Research, and Nuclear Physics, all within the Department of Energy's Office of Science.

Additionally, Directorate staff perform research and development for private industry and other government agencies, such as the Department of Defense and NASA. The Directorate's researchers are members of interdisciplinary teams tackling challenges of national importance that cut across all missions of the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral scholar will investigate the structure and dynamics of materials (e.g., MOF’s, zeolites) containing quadrupolar nuclei using solid-state NMR and DNP-NMR. You will also be part of a team using the Bruker 800 MHz DNP-NMR to advance understanding of solid phase materials for energy applications and catalysis. You will design and conduct magnetic resonance experiments, analyze and interpret the data, and work with a highly interdependent team to publish high impact results.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in physical or materials chemistry focused on solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance methods.
Must have significant experience designing and conducting solid-state NMR experiments investigating quadrupolar nuclei.
Experience with Matlab, Mathematica, Spinach or other NMR simulation software preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication is critical to success in this position.
