Regional Engineer – Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland
 
Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineer to be located in a DU Field Office in Easton, Maryland. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. Working from a home office within the geographic area of primary responsibilities will be considered.
 
Qualifications
Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, be a registered professional engineer and a minimum of 6 years of experience in civil engineering design. Applicant will need to obtain registration in assigned states. Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including grading, water control structure design, erosion control, construction inspection, and project management. Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships. Experience working with NRCS and/or state Dam Safety officials is beneficial. Knowledge of USDA Farm Bill programs such as ACEP-WRE, EQIP, and CRP/CREP is also a plus. 
 
Overall Responsibilities
Regional Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include occasional travel.
Primary Responsibilities
This position will be primarily a design engineer. Typical designs include earthen dams and spillways, water level control structures, rip rap, culverts, creative borrow/grading, and repair/retrofit of any of the preceding. Work will also involve plan production in Civil3D of projects being designed. 
Specific duties include:
  1. Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with biological staff serving as project managers.
  2. Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  3. Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  4. Prepare project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates. Attend project meetings.
  5. Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
  6. Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  7. Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance, and manage project budgets.
  8. Assist with occasional field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
