Research Associate - Post Doc

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide mechanistic understanding of the catalytic behaviors observed under reaction conditions.
  • Correlate the composition/structure with the activity/stability of catalysts.
  • Design and develop electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode.
  • Coordinate collaborative research with experimental or theoretical collaborators.
  • Prepare and write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals and present research results in scientific conferences and DOE program review meetings.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • PhD degree in physics, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related fields.
  • Strong background and research experience (including the graduate research) in electrocatalysis.
  • Good English writing and oral skills for publications and presentations.
  • Position 1 - Hands-on experience in synthesis, testing and characterization of electrocatalysts.
  • Position 2 - Experience in applying electronic structure theory, Transition State Theory (TST), microkinetic modeling or Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) methods in catalysis.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in water electrolysis.
  • Position 1 - Synthesis with controlled composition and morphology, electrochemical evaluation and in-situ/operando characterization using synchrotron and neutron techniques.
  • Position 2 - Electronic structure simulation of complex electrocatalysts (metal/metal compound interfaces and nanostructures) at the solid/liquid interfaces, kinetic modeling of electrochemical performances under reaction conditions and machine-learning-based study catalyst design.
