Senior Chemical Analyst

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is looking for a Senior Chemical Analyst. This position provides operational, research, development, and training support along with subject matter expert advice and decision support to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as part of its 24/7/365 Reachback contract. The DTRA Technical Reachback team’s prime focus is to respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and (high yield) Explosive (CBRNE) related requests for information (RFIs) from the Combatant Commands (COCOMs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Staff (JS), Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), first responders, and other local/state/federal agencies.

The successful candidate will provide general knowledge and subject matter expertise as a Chemical Analyst in support of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The candidate will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary Reachback team. Required tasks include performing complex engineering and scientific analyses and conducting special studies. Development of scientific reports, technical assessments, and independent verification/validation of CBRNE effects models is also required. Each Technical Reachback team member undergoes a rigorous certification process before becoming an active member of the Reachback team.

The successful candidate will be team oriented, possess strong multi-tasking abilities, and contribute chemical/chemical engineering expertise to the multi-disciplinary team. The candidate may be involved in consequence management support in areas of threat detection, attribution, protection, and remediation applications. The ideal candidate will use applied knowledge to develop, integrate, test, verify, validate and apply CBRNE software/scenarios based on results of experiments and predicted phenomena based on theoretical and computational methods. Working closely with other engineering groups to define the modeling objectives, the candidate will obtain the required model inputs and outputs, verify and validate results, and develop tailored products for customers. The candidate will review technical work of other scientists and engineers performing modeling projects.

Required Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or a very closely related field with minimum 7 years experience for Master’s degree with over 5 years experience
• Ability to apply chemical expertise to scientific problems through the use of analytical tools, mathematics, modeling, and simulation
• Ability to work varying shifts in support of 24/7/365 operations
• S. citizen w/ability to obtain or maintain a Top Secret security clearance
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Good technical presentation skills
• Teamwork mentality
• Microsoft Office proficiency
• Active Secret Clearance

Desired Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or a very closely related field with minimum 10 years experience or Master’s degree with over 7 years experience or PhD with over 4 years experience

• Experience with statistical analysis
• Active Top Secret Clearance, or Top Secret Clearance w/SCI
