Research Associate – Molecular Biology/AAV Engineering

JOB DESCRIPTION

The goal of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute is to improve mental health through research. Over the last several years, the Stanley Center and the psychiatric genetics community have gained unprecedented insight into the genetic basis of epilepsy, autism, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The focus of the Fishell lab (https://fishelllab.hms.harvard.edu/) is to determine how the genetic findings contribute to disease mechanisms, which is essential for the identification of drug targets and eventually the development of effective treatments. We are currently looking for a talented Research Associate to join the team and help us develop novel viral vectors capable of targeting specific subtypes of neurons in the brain. The candidate is expected to contribute to the exploration of a wide variety of approaches, including AAV engineering for gene delivery and therapy.

Role Responsibilities
• Clone and produce AAV-based constructs
• Maintain mammalian cell culture
• Perform AAV production, purification and QC analysis
• Assist with documentation of reagents and communication with outside collaborators

Required Qualifications
• BA/BS or MS in biology, molecular and cellular biology or related field with relevant research experience (not in the form of lab courses)
• Significant experience with standard molecular biology techniques
• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven track record of working in collaborative environments

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience working with AAVs is highly desirable
