Research Technician II - Schorn Lab

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a research assistant position opening in the Schorn laboratory effective now.

Mobile DNA has contributed to a large fraction of our DNA and is still active in many organisms. The Schorn lab is interested in mechanisms of small RNA-mediated transposon control, especially by tRNA-derived fragments that are abundant in stem cells and cancer cell lines. These tRNA fragments are processed from the 3’-end of full-length tRNAs under yet unknown conditions and protect many cell types in eukaryotes by inhibiting LTR-retrotransposons and -retroviruses.

The ideal candidate has attention to detail and brings experience in sterile working for cell culture as well as basic molecular biology practices including cloning, DNA extractions, RNA work, etc. Responsibilities will include cell culture work, CRISPR-lentiviral infections, general laboratory organization, and maintenance of laboratory supplies.
