Research Associate- Oil Infrastructure Monitoring

Wood Mackenzie is looking for a Research Analyst to join the team in Louisville, KY or Edinburgh, Scotland.
 
Main Responsibilities
  • Analyze proprietary, real-time imagery to report on events affecting global refining, chemicals and other commodity infrastructure.
  • Contribute to development and improvement of machine learning, computer vision models and workflows.
  • Communicate operational changes to market players in real-time.
  • Research and organize supporting technical documentation (permits, media articles, regulations, company records, etc.) on refining, chemicals and other commodity infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with fellow analysts in the United States and Europe to provide consistent and reliable reporting and analysis of operational events.

Qualifications

About you and how you can excel in the role:
  • Be a strong team player with an eye for detail and show creativity in finding alternative solutions.
  • Working knowledge of oil refinery, chemical processing, or other commodity infrastructure operations preferred.
  • Have an ability to synthesize and analyze imagery and other data from a variety of sources quickly and efficiently, often assimilating facts from prior events.
  • Have an ability to execute in a deadline driven environment.
  • Have an intellectual curiosity about what drives markets based on economic principles.
  • Exposure to image analysis and/or machine learning concepts (computer vision, event detection, image restoration, image feature analysis) strongly desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and at least one other database querying language (SQL, Cypher, etc.).
  • Skills in statistical analysis and/or data visualization software.
  • You’re an effective communicator with clients and with key internal stakeholders.
  • Experience with Python or R preferred.
 
Other experience you would have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Math, Economics preferred.
  • You’ve developed strong quantitative and statistical analytic capabilities from either your professional or academic experiences
  • You are passionate about commodity markets and the global oil supply chain
  • You enjoy data storytelling
  • You are able to work independently and as part of a team, generating ideas you want to share. The way in which you work is productive and driven, striving to be best in class.
