Senior Java Software Engineer

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), Algorithms, Modeling & Assessments Division in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer with Windows and Linux OS experience for a position developing and improving an existing weapon effects software architecture for advanced physics-based computational models deployed through standalone applications, web services, and Docker containers. This system is deployed for use in the Department of Defense. The candidate will have a strong passion and background in software development and making quality production software at all stages of the software lifecycle.

Senior Java Software Engineer Responsibilities:
• Support the development of our system, including:
+ Working on Agile teams to integrate M&S physics-based weapon effects models for Linux and Windows-based OS
+ Working on all aspects of software development including discovery, design, coding, unit testing, vulnerability scanning, and documentation
+ Resolving security-related and CVE defects in the architecture while deploying in a modern DevOps-driven pipeline
+ Working directly with our customers, other contractors, and other ARA teams to cross-integrate capabilities

Senior Java Software Engineer Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
• BS in Computer Science (or a related degree) with a minimum of 7 years of work experience OR an MS degree with a minimum of 5 years of work
• Java and C++ programming skills for Linux and Windows Systems
• Experience with Linux OS, compiling code for Linux, and executing software on Linux systems
• Demonstrated experience working in Agile teams
• Experience with Eclipse/IntelliJ, Visual Studio, and JIRA
• Experience with automated testing, both in your development workflow and through CI/CD

Senior Java Software Engineer Preferred Qualifications:
• Current active security clearance
• Experience with related DoD software systems and models
• Interest in data science, data analysis, data visualization, and mathematical algorithms
• Experience developing and deploying software to DoD IA requirements
• Knowledge of nuclear weapons effects and background in scientific programming
• Experience executing, debugging, and compiling verification and validation reports along with methodology reports for nuclear weapons effects models
