Marketing and Business Development Intern (Physical and Energy Sciences)

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Lab Intellectual Property Office is looking for a highly motivated Marketing and Business Development Intern (Physical and Energy Sciences) to join the team!

In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to scale up the Intellectual Property Office’s capacity to process, manage, assess, and market technologies and intellectual property developed at the Lab. The Marketing and Business Development Intern will support technology transfer activities and work closely with business development, marketing, and licensing experts to learn and experience the process of commercializing physical and energy sciences technologies.
 
 
 What You Will Do: 
  • Shadow business development experts and contribute to technology assessments to determine the potential of identified technologies for patentability and marketability for commercial uses.
  • Assist with customer discovery interviews/surveys for Physical and Energy Sciences technologies.
  • Learn intellectual property protection strategy and processes.
Marketing-
  • Provide marketing research and strategy development support.
  • Write marketing pieces, feature stories, and media pieces.
  • Conduct email marketing campaigns: develop contact lists, create Mailchimp email campaigns.
  • Develop videos/graphics or other content for marketing and branding activities; help organize, execute, and distribute creative campaigns.
  • Help organize and market webinars.
IP Data Processing and Reporting- 
  • Learn IP management and patent analysis databases, input/upkeep the inquiry or company engagement data, and produce reports as needed for case analysis.

What is Required:
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time accredited university at the senior undergraduate or graduate level currently pursuing a Chemistry degree or equivalent.
  • Strong writing skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Multimedia skills.

Notes:
  • This is a part-time, non-exempt from overtime pay (hourly paid), 2 year Student appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate academic program to qualify for this position.
  • This position will operate up to 40 hours per week during the summer or 20 hours per week during the academic school year. The hours and days of the week are flexible.
  • This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs and the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. Salary will be predetermined based on student step rates.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • Work may be performed on-site, hybrid, full-time telework or remote modes. Work must be performed within the United States.
