Quality Control Inspector - Language Editing Services (Hard Sciences)

Job Summary 
Quality Control Inspectors (QCIs) support the high quality of our editing service by completing quality control steps for our author service products, primarily language editing. This will require an understanding and application of the quality standards defined for each product. Work to further our services by testing and adopting new efficiency and automation tools as they show promise for service delivery. You will provide data-driven insights to shape quality standards and strategies based on identified quality trends. Additionally, you will support operational functions, such as team project participation, data analysis project participation, and identification and implementation of process improvements. 

Essential Functions 
  • Execute and advise on quality control strategies by monitoring English language quality in academic manuscripts to ensure that our output and systems are meeting company standards
  • Monitor contractor quality and exercise judgment on adherence to quality standards
  • Utilize the latest technology to support high-efficiency, target-quality edits
  • Support dynamic and evolving elements of the operations team 

Quality Control Inspectors can work remotely or from the Durham office. Remote or in-person training and attendance of functional meetings will be required. The posted position reflects a Monday to Friday week, with required availability from 9 AM to 5 PM (in your local time zone).


Requirements

Education 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of science or learning, including the humanities, life, and physical sciences, law, medicine, business, engineering, social sciences, and earth sciences 
Experience
  • 1 year of experience in a quality control role
  • Basic familiarity with academic publishing (e.g., manuscript preparation, journal submission) and writing (e.g., research articles, clinical reports, grant applications, literature reviews)
  • Detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and adaptable to learning and implementing new software solutions
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently to meet customer deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Word 
  • Excellent time management and the ability to handle occasional urgent tasks quickly and accurately

Work Environment 
  • Relocation is not required as this position can be remote-based. 
  • This role can be based anywhere in the US. 

The starting, non-negotiable, annual salary for this role is $36,000.
