Electrical Technician

Position Description
The Collider-Accelerator Department has an opening for an Electrical Technician in the Accelerator Components & Instrumentation Group. The Accelerator Components & Instrumentation Group is responsible for operation and upgrade of a wide variety of electron, ion, and laser beam instrumentation systems for the RHIC complex. In this role you will provide technical support for the operation of a variety of complex beam line instrumentation systems, involving working with new and existing beam line instrumentation, and may eventually plan, coordinate, and perform challenging assignments related to beam line component assemblies, support of photo-injectors and laser systems. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands on technical support for a wide variety of existing and new beam instrumentation systems
  • Work with engineers and technical team to develop, maintain and upgrade instrumentation systems throughout the C-AD complex
  • Working with analog/digital chassis, circuit board repair and first article chassis fabrications
  • Successfully complete and maintain current all training assigned and ensure compliance accordingly

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent relevant experience, or technical institute graduate with relevant work experience
  • Experience working with electronic systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work from electronic schematics
  • Experience with electronic system chassis assembly work
  • Familiarity with computers and Excel, Word, and electronic circuit drawing software
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills
  • Must be committed to working safely under strict guidelines

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Training, education and/or experience with precision electrical/mechanical operating systems
  • Training, education and/or experience with instrumentation devices
  • Knowledgeable of UHV operating systems is a plus
