Position Description
The Omega Group in the Physics Department has an opening for a scientist to join the ongoing effort on the ATLAS experiment. You will be expected to take a leading role in the activities of the group including major contributions to ATLAS, mentorship of postdocs and junior staff, exploration of future physics initiatives, collaboration with other BNL groups, and broader engagement such as education and outreach, DEI initiatives, and scientific service. We expect that the scientist will grow in this role and eventually attain the distinction of tenure. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participation in the ATLAS scientific program.
- Development of new initiatives towards the future of particle physics.
- Leadership of scientific, technical and administrative members of the group/collaborations
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics.
- At least 2 years of full-time postdoctoral research experience in particle or nuclear physics experiments.
- Ability to lead a team and work in a large international collaboration.
- Hands-on problem solving skills and clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership in scientific research at hadron-collider particle experiments.
- Experience with detector R&D and/or construction.
- Experience with computing & software development.
