Microscopy Intern | EAG Laboratories

Our Santa Clara, CA lab has a great opportunity for an Intern, TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) to join the team for a 3 months internship.

 Core Responsibilities:
  • Address scientific questions in materials characterization and failure analysis using various TEM imaging and analytical techniques
  • Individual operation of TEM machinery to obtain high-quality TEM data for various materials characterization needs
  • Understanding and proficiency in analytical techniques for data interpretation

 What will you learn?
  • Fundamental principles of transmission electron microscopy and hands-on experience of the instrument operation to obtain high quality TEM, STEM, EDS, and EELS data
  • Interpretation and processing of electron microscopy results including TEM, STEM images and analytical EDS/EELS dataset
  • Ability to apply practical electron microscopy methods to help address scientific questions in materials science

A Day in the Life:
  • Daily hands-on training on the operation of transmission electron microscopes for TEM alignment, image acquisition, EDS/EELS acquisition, and data processing to achieve meaningful results suiting materials characterization needs
  • Collaboration with Mentor/Supervisor and team members
  • Reflection of learning process, reviewing objectives with Supervisor

Qualifications:


  • Student pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar 
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Strong background in materials characterization with a wide variety of materials
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills
  • Ability to travel to the Santa Clara lab for on-site internship; work 20-40 hours per week
  • Excellent attitude with an eagerness to learn and grow
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs
