What You Will Do

Are you ready to begin a career in the intelligence/counterintelligence community? If so, we encourage you to learn more about our student opening in the Office of Counterintelligence (OCI) at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). We are looking for one highly motivated post-baccalaureate candidate in the areas of intelligence and counterintelligence analysis, data analytics, cyber-forensic analysis, insider threat, or foreign visits and immigration. Your work will contribute to the laboratory's mission to solve national security challenges and the OCI's mission of disrupting foreign intelligence and international terrorist targeting of DOE and the laboratory without disrupting the scientific and technical mission for which we exist. You will also attend relevant conferences, workshops, and meetings in furtherance of your education and career.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Data Analysis Methods

Experience with the development of data analysis methods and modeling, and/or an understanding of statistical analysis.

Research Expertise

Have conducted research in one or more of the following areas: Intelligence or counterintelligence, data analytics, cyber forensics, cyber security, insider threat, criminology, forensic psychology, foreign visits, immigration, or other closely related areas.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, cyber forensics, cyber security, political science, forensic psychology or any closely related discipline. The candidate must be within 3 years of completion of bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 at time of interview, or will have completed all requirements by commencement of the appointment. Additionally, the candidate should not be accepted into/enrolled in another graduate program at time of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • BS or BA in criminal justice, cyber forensics, cyber security, political science, criminology, forensic psychology, or a related field.
  • Active Q-Clearance or ability to obtain a Q-Clearance (which generally requires U.S. citizenship and no illegal drug use within the past 12 months).Familiarity with the DOE Counterintelligence/Counterterrorism Program, knowledge of foreign intelligence service methods (to include non-traditional foreign intelligence collection).
  • Proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Powerpoint) with presentation skills suitable for a wide audience.
  • A desire to learn new skills and grow professionally.

Work Environment:

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
