Senior Systems Engineer

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) seeks an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to specify, source, and manage a variety of technology in support of Advanced Research and Development.

This Senior Systems Engineer conducts an assessment of technology areas used to support solutions developed in response to R&D Requirements. The successful candidate will have experience related to industrial systems as well as the delivery of complex projects. A wide degree of creativity and latitude and self-management is expected.

Applicants should have extensive experience in the areas of Systems Engineering support and best practices, paired with application in the design, implementation, and integration of disparate systems. This engineer investigates and analyzes unique or highly technical systems, providing guidance and understanding to key stakeholders. Additionally, this engineer needs to evaluate complex and bleeding-edge technologies to assess the efficacy of integration.

Senior Systems Engineer Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
    * Develop Emerging Warfighter requirements through engagement with user representatives
    * Conduct persistent market and technology research to understand the state of the art, and the art of the possible
    * Development and analysis of operational concepts to drive solution functions and alternative architectures
    * Develop acquisition strategies for the fulfillment of user requirements
    * Interfacing with external organizations supporting systems engineering, architecture, and/or design in a professional manner
    * Gaining and maintaining awareness of new developments in technology used to support program solutions (technical thrust areas will be discussed and assigned)
    * Travel to customer facilities to assist with technical issues
    * Developing & Refining System Architectures and System Requirements
    * Performing Functional Allocation; Create and Maintain Specifications
    * Review Detailed Technical Drawings and Specifications
    * System Integration & Verification
    * Supporting System Develop, Review, Installation, and Performance Acceptance Testing Documents
    * Conduct, Document, and Sign off on the testing referenced above

Senior Systems Engineer Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
    * Document and present research for applicable industry and academia-related thrust areas
    * Provide subject matter expertise with system analysis, design, delivery, verification, and troubleshooting of designated systems
    * Generate technical documents, such as test plans and procedures
    * Provide technical input/feedback to the development team

Senior Systems Engineer Security Clearance Requirements:
    * Due to the work you’ll perform, you must be a US citizen and eligible to apply for and hold a US Top Secret, SCI security clearance (selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment)

Senior Systems Engineer Location and Travel Requirements:
    * Must live within commuting distance of Fort Belvoir, VA (MD, Virginia, and West Virginia)
    * This position may require travel 7 to 10 days a month

Senior Systems Engineer Required Education and Experience:
    * Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering will be considered
    * 8 years of experience is required
    * Proficiency in Requirements Management
    * Managing Change Control across several systems
    * Demonstrated understanding of fundamental engineering concepts/principles/theories and standard engineering methodologies
    * Ability to clearly articulate, verbally and in writing, new concepts and capabilities to the team and customers
    * Experience or understanding of Acquisition procedures a plus

Senior Systems Engineer Preferred Qualifications:
    * Active clearance
    * 10 years of experience is preferred
