Vegetation Maintenance Specialist 2

Position open until filled.
Minimum starting pay for this position is $34.38 per hour or commensurate with experience
PHYSICAL OFFICE LOCATION: PEC Haley Road Offices – 300 Haley Road, Johnson City, TX 78636

Position Summary
This position is responsible for vegetation maintenance for the Cooperative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
·        Provide the forestry and arboricultural expertise for managing line clearance operations through directing and monitoring contractor performance
·        Direct, monitor and evaluate contractor performance through field visits, direct observation and audits
·        Conduct audits of contractor logs, time sheets, invoices and other records
·        Verify and approve the accuracy of contractor log sheets
·        Perform periodic safety, environmental and other training
·        Assist in preparing and participating in contractor evaluations
·        Investigate and handle complex customer issues and complaints including access, refusals, work performed and other vegetation maintenance activities
·        Represent the Cooperative on vegetation management issues and associated environmental issues and promote the Cooperative as a concerned corporate citizen
·        Utilize the database to maintain record keeping and tracking systems that identify tree species, population and workload
·        Communicate with district personnel on upcoming maintenance and identify maintenance concerns within the district
·        Assist in contract renewal and bid processes
·        Process contractor invoices
·        Benchmark industry forestry/arboricultural developments
·        Maintain knowledge of regulations, ordinances and rulings that impact the Cooperative's vegetation maintenance program
·        Obtain required permits from public agencies
·        Adhere to PEC and industry safety standards
·        Maintain assigned vehicle and tools
·        Participate in call out, outage, and restoration activities
·        Initiate requisitions for contractor work
·        Maintain the security of confidential information
·        Stay abreast of advances in technology
·        Utilize current vegetation software tools to collect and report data

May provide leadership, work assignments, work evaluation, training and guidance to less experienced team members and contractors

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·        Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data, configuration, or processing information
·        Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
·        Knowledge of herbicides and related regulations
·        Knowledge of tree physiology and biology
·        Knowledge of electric utility construction practices for transmission and distribution systems
·        Knowledge of utility vegetation management safety rules and practices
·        Skilled in time management
·        Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
·        Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
·        Ability to maintain confidentiality
·        Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
·        Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems
·        Ability to analyze and evaluate influencing factors on vegetation growth such as weather, growing season, availability of water, etc. in order to forecast the general impact on system reliability, public safety and environmental consequences
·        Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
·        Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence
·        Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
·        Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing

Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensing)
·        Bachelors degree in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Forestry, or a related field of study
·        Directly related experience may substitute for education
·        Two years of electric utility experience
·        International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist
·        International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist Utility Specialist
·        International Society of Arboriculture, Texas Chapter Oak Wilt Qualification
·        Valid Texas driver's license
